Email addresses on organizational websites are for contact purposes. Email address listings on organizational web pages are increasingly becoming less common. Instead, more secure methods of email contacting are being put in place of posted email addresses.

Most often, public entities use the option of having textboxes appear on websites for people to enter a message in the textbox and click on the, 'Send' or 'Submit' button to send the email to an undisclosed email address. This reduces the chances of spam being sent to the email account of the undisclosed email address. If the recipient of the email chooses to respond to the sender's email, the sender can then send a response directly to the email address the email form sent to original message to. Often, email forms do not permit file attachments to be included. This is usually the case.
